The location of your company is one of the biggest components to its success. If it is located in an area the country with high corporate tax rates or lack of brand awareness, the company could falter quickly. In some cases, those issues may be cause to move the business elsewhere. What can you do to ensure a successful move from one side of the country to the other?

Give Your People Plenty of Time to Transition

Your employees should be given as much time as they need to handle the transition. They may need to find schools for their children, homes or apartments to buy or rent and take care of other matters before the move. If you want their full attention before, during and after the corporate move, you should let them tend to their own affairs and eliminate potential distractions.

Have a Plan A and a Plan B

The last thing that you want is to show up to the office building that you rented only to find out that it isn’t available anymore. You also don’t want to get into town and find that the land that you bought was owned by another party who won’t give up the rights to it.

Therefore, it is in your company’s best interest to have multiple plans in place just in case something goes wrong. Even if you don’t buy two plots of land or rent two office buildings, it is important to know where you can go until you have a permanent location.

Find the Right Moving Company

It is critical that you find a moving company that is willing to transport your belongings such a long distance. You should inquire about the cost of a truck as well as the cost to potentially house movers overnight. It may also be necessary to pay for incidentals such as food, gas and the time it takes to get a truck back to its headquarters. In some cases, it may be better to ask some of your own workers to drive a moving truck or otherwise act as an internal moving service.

Give Everyone Time to Settle In

You should expect an adjustment period when you move to your new location. Customers may need to learn more about who you are and what you do. Your people may need time to forge relationships with individuals from other companies as well as with government and other community leaders.
